Today we’ve got a guest post by Andria Jackson who has created a new course on using Krita to create a 2D film!

Twinimation Studios first online course has launched. This course, How to create a 2D Film on a Budget, is for anyone who wants to create their own animation, but isn’t sure about the process. We will guide you from storytelling in pre-production to final edits in post-production. You will learn storyboarding, how to create animatics, different methods of animation, background design, color theory, effects, character design, and more.

It is also for those who would like to animate without breaking the bank. This course will recommend numerous free programs, for not only animation, but also 3D modeling and video editing, including the free to use animation and illustration program Krita. Film creation is time consuming, but it doesn’t need to be expensive.

Lastly, this course can also be purchased as a lesson plan for any instructor who wishes to teach animation to their students. Whether you are interested in animation yourself, or you are a teacher at an art school/program and are seeking teaching materials, this course will provide you with valuable insight.

https://krita.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/andria.mp4

Twinimation Studios was founded by instructors Andria and Arneisha Jackson. Andria and Arneisha are MFA graduates who’ve studied animation for 7 years and are now ready to share their professional knowledge with the world. You will be able to learn different styles of animation, character design, environment design, illustration, 3D modeling, film creation and so much more from the comfort of your own home and at your own pace! The student is free to choose how quickly they want to learn, in which order they’d like to handle their lessons, and so on.

We plan to provide a large array of animation courses here on Twinimation, so eventually you will be able to pick and choose which elements you’d like to learn, and all for very reasonable prices. We believe in providing you with all of the information we feel you need to know in order to create beautiful portfolio pieces to start your journey into the industry.

And speaking of the industry, everything we will be teaching our students was taught to us by industry professionals. Many of our professors worked at Disney, Blue Sky, and Cartoon Network. So anyone who takes our courses will be receiving expert level information for a low price. Be on the lookout for future courses from Twinimation Studios, including how to animate in different styles across the eras, how to animate in anime style, a crash course in animation history, and many more!

Check it out here!

The post New course on using Krita to create a 2D film appeared first on Krita.

 2. Bumping the Store Prices for Krita 5.0

We started selling Krita in the Steam Store in 2014. In 2017, the Windows Store followed, then in 2021 the Epic Store. With the recent improvements on macOS, we intend to put Krita in the macOS store as well (though not in the ipadOS store!) and we want to put the macOS version of Krita in the Epic and Steam stores.

Originally, we were planning to make every new major version a new purchase, but with Krita 3 being quickly replaced by Krita 4, that didn’t seem fair.

Krita 5 will still be an automatic upgrade for everyone who has once bought Krita in any of the stores.

We’ve maintained a base price of $9,95 or €9,95 since 2014. But since then, inflation has started creeping back into our lives, especially over the past year, and store sales still are the main source of income for sponsoring development.

From Krita 5 on, which is a huge upgrade in functionality, we will maintain a base price in all stores of $19,95 or €19,95, except for the macOS Apple Store, where we will start with $24,95 or €24,95.

That’s because developing on macOS costs real money. We need to get expensive hardware, both for building the releases as well as for development. We need to get the people who work on macOS Apple Developer IDs, at €99,00 a year. And developing for macOS just takes a lot of extra effort, too.

Of course, Krita will still be free and open source software, and all versions of Krita will be available for free from https://krita.org/download. The best way to support Krita development is to join the development fund — all stores take their pound of flesh. But if you want automatic updates, support development or want to have the benefits of managing your software library on all your systems, don’t hesitate to get Krita from your favourite app store!

NOTE: to be really clear:

we don’t know yet when we will release Krita 5.0, since we’re still fixing bugs like crazy.

The price increase will coincide with the release of Krita 5.

Krita 5 will be an automatic upgrade for everyone who has purchased Krita 4 in any of the stores that currently carry Krita.

Buying Krita in one store does not give you access to Krita in another store: you cannot buy Krita for Windows on Steam and then get it as an update in the Apple store for macOS, for instance.

The post Bumping the Store Prices for Krita 5.0 appeared first on Krita.

Each tutorial covers one specific action with the result. The tutorials range from how to do little tricks like draw Parallel Lines to complex tools like Gradient Mesh. By September 22, 2021 the book contains 60 tutorials and keeps growing. The intent is to create such a book that contains a lot of short tutorials that aim to solve one single problem. So the person does not spend a lot of time on reading through a lot of pages online and watching video after video while figuring things out. Hopefully with help of this book artists would spend more time creating than digging online to figure out how things should be done. The author of this book is an independent individual who focuses on making templates, assets, software and online materials for artists, indie game developers and small studios. The autor practices drawing himself which does a good job for understanding what artists actually need. You can learn more about the book and where to get it here: https://www.yetanotherpainter.com/krita-secrets/ The book comes in two editions. Free sample, so that the artists can see if the book fits their needs. And a paid version that contains all the tutorials including free sample. This will not impact an installed version of Krita, though it will share your settings and custom resources with your regular installed version of Krita. For reporting crashes, also get the debug symbols folder.

Note that we are not making 32 bits Windows builds anymore.

64 bits Windows Installer: krita-x64-4.4.8-setup.exe

Portable 64 bits Windows: krita-x64-4.4.8.zip

Debug symbols.
